Reporting and investigating incidents are crucial steps in dealing with workplace violence and harassment. Here's what you need to know.
Speak Up
What to Do: If you experience or witness violence or harassment, report it as soon as possible.
Who to Tell
What to Do: You can report to your manager, HR, or any trusted person in the workplace.
What to Include
What to Do: Provide as many details as possible—what happened, who was involved, and any witnesses.
Initial Review
What Happens: Once a report is made, the company will review it to see what type of investigation is needed.
Appropriate Investigation
What Happens: The company will conduct an investigation that is appropriate to the circumstances of the reported incident. This means that a simple dispute may be informally resolved, however, a more serious or complicated case may require the use of a third party investigator.
Investigation
What Happens: You and others may be interviewed to get more information. The investigator will give everyone an opportunity to make a statement about what happened, review any other relevant evidence, and report their finding to the General Manager.
Third-Party Investigator
What Happens: If the situation is complex or sensitive, our company has access to a neutral third-party investigator who may be brought in to ensure fairness and impartiality. They will independently conduct interviews with all relevant parties, review the evidence and then provide a report to us of their findings.
Outcome
What Happens: After the investigation, the company will decide what action to take. This could be anything from a warning to the termination of employment. Remember, we do not tolerate Workplace Harassment or Violence in any Form.
Written Response
What Happens: Once the investigation is done you will be informed in writing about the outcome of the investigation, along with any action that has been taken.
Confidentiality
What Happens: Your identity and the details of the report will be kept as confidential as possible.
Retaliation
A reprisal against a complainant is itself a form of harassment and will not be tolerated if the complaint is honestly submitted.
